Well what can one say when another true great and legend of the tattooing world pass’s on – without sounding false or condescending – Legend and great two words branded about so easily in this day and age where even a footballer is called a hero – But let me tell you Janet Rusty Skuse was both a legend and a great in the tattooing world – How else could she have appeared in newspapers, magazines, travelled the world to promote tattooing since the early 1960’s without being special – And to stay at the top of any tree in whatever profession you find yourself in nowadays is pretty rare indeed – But Rusty was one of those people – For not only did she help to bring the tattooed woman to the mass’s – She could get up there and say yes this is me and I’m tattooed – A lady who could hold her own in any company – A woman who was and still is known the world over and a person who I remember meeting many years ago – and to tell you the truth I was a little worried about doing so – as she was in ‘The Guinness Book Of Records’ at the time and part of the most famous tattooing family in British tattooing – But you know what – when I said hello she treated me like she known me all her life and made me feel important – Something that she would do every time I had the pleasure in meeting up with her – A great lady to the very end who will sadly missed – Below is a piece I have put together for anyone who wasn’t lucky enough to have met her – hopefully to show just what a big part Rusty played in tattooing history.
